Nova Scotia’s Sandboxes are hosted by universities and the Nova Scotia Community College and focus on fostering an enthusiasm and capacity for innovation and entrepreneurship amongst Nova Scotia university students. Experimentation and curiosity are at the core of what they do. At this event, you will learn about programming offered by sandboxes across the province and their areas of focus. You will have a chance to learn how the sandbox program has helped students become more innovative. You will interact with managers and sandbox students through networking, and see some of the prototypes student have built. You’ll end the session with the unique opportunity to listen to a overview of the processes of innovation, commercialization, and entrepreneurship for science. This will include processes such as needs finding, product-market fit, value propositions, Lean Startup and Agile Development methodologies, the Business Model Canvas, and intellectual property protection.
SURGE – Science Unleashed: Research Growing the Economy is Nova Scotia’s newest sandbox. Funded by the Nova Scotia government, SURGE aims to train science students to translate scientific discovery into economic growth and solutions to the world’s big problems. Join us in learning more about the Nova Scotia sandbox program, and how innovation can help transform our province. We will also be offering free tours of the new sandbox space and discussing the many exiting programs SURGE is rolling out, including our upcoming VR Hackathon.
