SURGE Discover Coding
RSVP at: Eventbrite
Join SURGE, ShiftKey and Ocean Tracking Network (OTN) in our first Discover Workshop series! The first event will be a full day scientific Python workshop on Wednesday May 15. This is ideal for scientists who need to use Python for their work, or are interested in learning about it — even if you have no previous coding experience. We will use the well-established Data Carpentry curriculum. Specifically, we will use their Python for Ecologists module, but if you’re not an ecologist, don’t worry! The material is applicable to most areas of science, and only uses ecology data for examples. Over the next three following Wednesdays, we will be hosting GitLunches – two hour workshops to get students and researchers more comfortable with coding and using GitHub for managing software projects. Finally, we will wrap up the series by celebrating International Year of the Salmon by holding a full day workshop using OTN’s salmon geospatial data and kicking off OTN and Big Spruce’s Tag You’re It Beer Collab!
May 15: Data Carpentry for Ecologists 9:30 – 5:00
May 22, 29 June 5: GitLunches 12:00-2:00
June 12: Geospatial Salmon Workshop 9:30-5:00
Workshops are free with lunch provided!
