Deep Dives

Deep Dive events are multi-day or multi-week events that give students the opportunity to create solutions to real-world problems. SURGE Deep Dives include hackathons, make-a-thons, startup weekends, and ideathons, which all have themes around particular topics, problems, or challenges.  

These events are intended to provide students with brief but deep exposure to innovation and entrepreneurship through experiential learning in team settings and to introduce students to different scientific tools/concepts.  

Events are team-based to foster the development of soft skills in working collaboratively in groups, project management, delegation, brainstorming, and problem-solving. Events will provide instruction and guidance on science-related problems/techniques and how a viable business model could be developed to implement the solution.
