SURGE Clubs
Weekly drop-in sessions are intended to engage students throughout the term on various technologies essential to research. During the 2024 summer term, the NeuroTech Club is hosted every Thursday in the SURGE Hub from 3 - 5 pm.
Deep Dives
Multi-day or multi-week activities intended to provide students with brief, but deep exposure to the processes of innovation and entrepreneurship through experiential learning in team settings. Includes Hackathons, Make-a-thons, Startup Weekends, and Dalbox Access.
Employment Opportunities
Student employment with SURGE provides opportunities for students to gain experiential training in leadership and scientific communication with mentors from Dalhousie University’s science and communications communities.
Science Innovation Class
A full-year capstone course focusing on the processes of innovation and entrepreneurship. This course is project-based and taught through team-based experiential learning.
Residency Program
This program provides mentorship, space, and financial support for promising teams as they coalesce to refine their business model, develop prototypes, validate hypotheses, and seek initial funding and traction.

Discover Coding
Discover Coding introduces science students, faculty, and staff to the world of scientific coding. Workshops are available in both R and Python languages.
Dalbox Programming
There are five Innovation sandboxes at Dalhousie University: ShiftKey Labs (Faculty of Computer Science), Pulse (Faculty of Health), IDEA (Faculty of Engineering), Cultiv8 (Faculty of Agriculture), and SURGE (Faculty of Science). These five sandboxes occasionally host interdisciplinary workshops that bring students from all five faculties together to tackle the world’s big problems.
