Invention to Innovation (i2I) Skills Training Deadline

Invention to Innovation (i2I) Skills Training is the only university research-based educational offering in Canada that develops an entrepreneurial mindset for scientists and engineers who want to take their ideas from lab to market. Participants will be equipped with the theory, frameworks and skills to commercialize inventions, become an innovation champion in industry or increase knowledge mobilization through translational science.

Over a 7-month period, from the end of October 2021 to May 2022, participants will engage in four asynchronous online topics. The first two topics (Lab to Market and Opportunity Identification & Assessment) are facilitated by i2I Faculty and the last two topics (Business Models & Financial Literacy for Entrepreneurs) utilize a peer-learning environment whereby participants work in learning groups with mentorship from innovation faculty, Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIRs) and industry champions.

Admission to the i2I Skills Training through Mitacs is based on the following criteria:

  • Current Program Participant, Alumni, or in the process of applying for the Mitacs Elevate or Mitacs Accelerate programs

  • Minimum degree level requested: Masters (or those currently enrolled in a Masters program)

  • Positive letter of reference from a current or past supervisor or professional colleague

  • CV or resume

  • An Innovation Statement, which includes a potential innovation idea to develop, a brief description of experience in research and development, motivation for joining the skills training and future goals

  • If applicable, if you are currently in a Mitacs program, please include written acknowledgement that your industry partner is aware you are applying
