After a year away, the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is returning for 2022! 3MT brings together the Dalhousie community to give graduate student researchers a platform to share and celebrate their ideas and compete for $4,000 in cash prizes.
Unlike in previous years, the competition will be held virtually rather than on-campus. Here’s how it works:
You have three minutes to present your research in as engaging a manner as possible for an audience of laypeople, with one PowerPoint slide permitted as a visual aid.
3MT has two stages: the opening heats and the finals. The opening heats will not be held live. Instead, you will submit a recorded video of your presentation, which can be viewed on the 3MT Brightspace site. You’ll be placed in random groups with fellow participants, and judges will determine winners from each group who will advance to the finals. Voting from the Dalhousie community will also determine one finalist. Videos can be submitted until April 4.
3MT’s final round will take place live on the evening on April 21 via Zoom. Finalists will perform their presentations live, and judges will determine the top three finishers, with voting from the Dalhousie community in place to name the “People’s Choice” award winner.
